The PlayStation 5 is home to many popular games, but gamers are about to have to say goodbye to one of them. Having already lost online support earlier this year, soon Sony fans won't even be able to download from the PS Store, as it will be delisted and shut down.
This November, Destruction AllStars will disappear from the online marketplace forever. Anyone with even the least bit of interest in the 2021 vehicular combat game should be sure to download it now, while they still have the chance.
PlayStation 5 Game to Shut Down Forever This November
Developed by Lucid Games and published Sony Interactive Entertainment, Destruction AllStars was first released in 2021. A PS5 exclusive, the vehicular combat game offered single-player modes, but was primarily designed to be played in online multiplayer.
However, earlier this year, on May 26, Destruction AllStars and all of its associated digital currency was removed from the PlayStation Store, and rendered no longer available for purchase. It was also announced that, on November 25, single-player modes would be shut down as well, along with the game's servers.
"Master the art of intense vehicle-based combat through timing, tactics and skills to cause colossal amounts of damage, destruction and devastation in vibrant arenas across the globe," the description for Destruction AllStars reads on Sony's website. "Pile-on the destruction from behind the wheel or leap into the arena with a breathtaking reel of parkour action by dodging attacks, taking over vehicles or using abilities to disrupt the onslaught of incoming vehicles."
"A roster of 16 blockbuster Destruction AllStars are revved up and ready to compete in the name of entertainment and demolition. So, strap in for intense, explosive and unpredictable levels of free-flowing action and fight to be crowned the Global Destruction Federation Champion."

However, Arcade Mode single player challenges will remain accessible for pre-existing players, so copies of the title won't be rendered entirely useless. That said, Sony does warn of potential issues with functionality and player experience due to the server shutdown.
"Any virtual currency (Destruction Points) currently owned by players can continue to be redeemed within available single-player modes until Wednesday 25th November 2026 at 15:00 UTC," Sony added in their official statement. They also explained the reasoning behind this decision, saying, "Due to ongoing technical issues, multiplayer services for Destruction AllStars on PlayStation 5 shall remain offline and are no longer available."
Destruction AllStars, while never the biggest breakout hit for Sony, now serves as yet another example of the looming danger to come from the company's decision to cease production of physical games. If physical copies of the game didn't exist, no one new would ever be able to even try it again. And while the state it's being left in at all is a shell of its former self, that in itself is also a major issue that the modern gaming community faces.
